Returns are an unpredictable element of Ebay. The online giant does not require sellers offer a return policy and so each and every transaction a buyer engages in can vary with regard to returns. These kinds of things are flaws that must be mentioned. If not, the item was not represented properly. If this happens, regardless of their return policy, you the buyer should immediately contact the seller and tell him what the problem is. The buyer should give the seller a chance to rectify the situation and more often, sellers are willing. The seller may easily take the item back, offer a replacement or offer some restitution like a partial refund. Of course, the seller may also say no. In this case, the buyer should have Ebay intervene through the dispute center and they will contact the seller directly. Most sellers do not want to jeopardize their reputation with Ebay so more than likely they will accommodate. If not, hopefully you the buyer used PayPal as they will refund the amount you paid after a certain period of time has lapsed. Some buyers who do not offer return policies do make exceptions so if something doesn’t fit, it could be worth a try to ask. But if they say no, the buyer’s got to eat it. In general, using sellers that don’t offer a return policy is a risk for buyers so you may want to bypass these sellers all together. Many sellers do accept returns, however. The time periods can vary from 7 to 30 days so again, you must read the ad carefully to be clear. When buyers decide to return something, they must always contact the seller first. Never just put something in a envelope and send it back. Sellers need to know its coming and most, especially more experienced ones, have specific return instructions. Generally, pack the item in the original or similar packing if you can and always include a copy of the original receipt if there was one or a copy of the auction page. Including a written note as to what you were told could help especially if they are making some kind of concession for you. Sellers deal with lots of buyers and it helps to remind them of your situation. Send back the item with “delivery confirmation” requested through the postal carrier. This way you can track when it arrives and know when you can start inquiring about your refund should it not show up in your PayPal account for a few days. Contact the seller with the date you know it was delivered as evidence. Should you get no response within a reasonable time (like a week), you can involve Ebay through the dispute center and/or, as formerly mentioned, get your refund through PayPal’s dispute process, if necessary. Do NOT expect to get your shipping refunded when you return something that you didn’t like or it didn’t fit. DO expect shipping to be refunded if the item was not as described or was damaged in some way, even if it happened in transit. Sellers bears the burden of representing their items accurately and packing them safely to protect their buyers’ interests and in the end, their own. They must take responsibility for any flubs. Thus, you can bid with some level of confidence, especially knowing that Ebay and Paypal do provide some support in resolving return issues.
